Hatching the First Class Way
When I was a kid my big sister had ducks. I remember watching baby ducks hatch one morning out in the old shed in the pasture. It was thrilling! The little chick poked a little tiny hole in the shell, then struggled and writhed inside, working his tail off until he finally pecked his way out. Wet and gooey, the newly hatched bird flopped around, trying to get his footing. But before long he was clean and dry, ready to plunge into the water with his mom.
Hatching? Is this a farming blog now?
No, but hatching is something I recommend everyone do at least once in their lives. Let me explain…
Intense life transitions rarely happen easily. We develop and grow like a baby chicken inside its shell, getting bigger and stronger and more fully formed until that shell that is our current life can no longer contain us. Then it is time for us to hatch.
It’s a struggle. We’ve been preparing for a long time for this transition, and when we hatch as a new human being out of our old shell, it’s a process too. Sometimes it takes months. Other times it takes years. But no matter how long it takes, it’s worth it. We emerge with a new purpose, a new attitude, or new perspective. Many times we don’t even realize how much we have been changing until one day it slaps us in the face that we have pecked a hole in our shell and a big change is imminent.
You are not the same you you used to be.
You are different. Better. Stronger. Smarter. Wiser. More intuitive. More serene.
You create a new path for yourself and walk on that path until it becomes times to hatch again.
I have recently gone through a hatching cycle myself. Life launched so many changes at me so quickly that I couldn’t keep up. I lived in survival mode, treading water, and “made it work” for a long time before my personal growth finally caught up to where I was in my life.
But when it caught up…wow. Everything seemed to fall into place. The shell fell away and even as I stumbled around, wet and disoriented, I knew something amazing had just happened. The bright world surrounding me was the same, but me? I was different. Therefore everything I saw was colored with a new light, no longer obscured by the shell. I could see.
All of that struggle to grow and develop has given me an amazing gift: same body, but new life within.
